When it comes to fashion editorials, each fashion magazine tries to build a concept. You can build a concept based on your culture, art, tradition or you can go modern, abstract etc..... Everything is possible.
Today I have seen a photo shoot done by an African Magazine "This Day Style"
This is the cover of the magazine- It shows a wedding couple celebrating a traditional wedding.
This photo shoot features the Nigerian/British actress and model Eku Edewor
I have found it via Facebook and I found nothing negative about.
It;s not racist and it;s not shameful like people commented!
Eku is living in Nigeria and is well known all over Africa.
Before putting your opinion down in the WWW, I think it;s best to do some research on the photo shoot and concept of it.
Nigeria has a long history on traditional wedding rituals and costumes.
This photo shoot tries to re-vibe the wedding traditions in Nigeria by showing how kids help the bride to get to her future husband. All her belonging are in the luggage and she is on the way to live her new life.
These images has nothing to do with child labour or a colonial concept.

PS: Let me know how you see this photo shoot!
Why should it be racist? It looks so pretty and remember the roots is always admiring. Why not?

It's a gorgeous photo shoot. Really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSad that negative comments take over something so pretty.
I can see both sides of the coin, but share your views, dear Lorena. These are strikingly gorgeous, poignant, tasteful photos and I'm happy to have seen them for the first time through your blog.
